Negotiations for hijacked Saudi oil tanker begin | Vela International Marine, the Saudi Arabian company that owns the MV Sirius Star oil tanker which was captured by pirates on November 15, have begun negotiations with the Somali pirates.
The Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al Faisal said that talks had begun, but he did not say whether a ransom would be paid. Vela International Marine, which is owned by state-owned Saudi Aramco, would only say it is "working toward [the crew's] safe and speedy return."
"We do not like to negotiate with pirates, terrorists or hijackers," said Saud al Faisal in Rome, after speaking with Franco Frattini, the Foreign Minister of Italy.
Dubai-based television network Al Jazeera broadcast an audiotape of a man who said he was with the pirates. He identified himself as Farah Abd Jameh.
"Negotiators are located on board the ship and on land. Once they have agreed on the ransom, it will be taken in cash to the oil tanker. We assure the safety of the ship that carries the ransom. We will mechanically count the money and we have machines that can detect fake money," the man said. He did not mention any specific amounts for the ransom. | | | 21.11.2008

Pets in Germany | Basically, there are 3 regulations you have to follow if you plan to bring a pet to Germany. The regulations posted here refer to the import of dogs, cats and ferrets.
Hofbräuhaus | The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is a world famous beer hall in the city center of Munich, Germany.
This inn may be the world's most famous inn originally built in 1589 by the Bavarian duke William V to avoid buying beer for his troops from Lower Saxony. The general public was admitted only in 1828 by then king Louis I. The building was completely remodeled in 1897, when the brewery moved to the suburbs. In the bombing of WW II, everything but the main inn ("Schwemme") was destroyed; it took until 1958 to be rebuilt.

Driving in Germany | First of all: It's true! There is no general speed limit on the German autobahns!
But there are plenty of other traffic regulations you should be aware of.
Don't let the high speeds on German roads fool you into believing that there are no reduced speed zones.

Banking and paying bills in Germany | Credit cards are becoming more and more accepted in Germany, but living in the Grafenwoehr/Vilseck/Hohenfels area it’s strongly recommended to not solely rely on using credit cards! Probably due to the rather low density of population and/or puchase power in this area, most stores pass on credit card acceptance.
In bigger cities like Nuernberg, Regensburg or Munich, the usage of credit cards is more common.

About German Beer | German beer is highly diverse and an important part of Germany's culture. There are more than 1300 breweries in Germany, the highest number of breweries in the world. The German beer market is a bit sheltered from the rest of the world beer market by the German brewers' adherence to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot (purity requirement) dating from 1516, according to which the only allowed ingredients of beer are "Wasser (water), Hopfen (hops) und (Gersten-)Malz (barley-malt)". Many breweries worldwide adopted the Reinheitsgebot for their own beers. After its invention, cultured yeast became the fourth legal ingredient. Through the agreement (which was law up to 1988 but is still adhered to by virtually all German brewers), beers from Germany tend to have a good reputation for their quality. The Germans are behind only the Czechs and the Irish in their per capita consumption of beer.
